Advanced Repertoire

All this repertoire is realistically graded and provides additional material that can be used alongside the Violin Playing books.

It is personally recommended by me and has been used with great effect and enjoyment by pupils.

  • GRADES 7 & 8+

JACQUE IBERT - 'Le petit ane blanc'
This is one of ten 'histoire' by Ibert arranged for violin & Piano by Arthur Hoeree. It is a great character piece and real fun to play. A real sense of humour. Would be enjoyed by Grade 7 & 8 players.

    SHOSTAKOVICH - Albumstucke No6 'Frulingswalzer'
This waltz is very demanding to play really well - perhaps more Grade 8 than Grade 7. Be warned that the Peters Edition is peppered with fingerings that make it difficult to read the notes.
(For other pieces in this book see Grade 1, 3 & 4)

    MASSENET - Meditation
One of the best known favourites from the entire violin repertoire. It is included in a collection called 'Violin Favourites' from Fentone Music with other great pieces at various grade levels. A good purchace!

    DVORAK - Sonatina in G Op.100
A great piece to learn at this stage. Doesn't need a virtuoso technique so it isn't played much by the 'greats'. I always refer to this as 'the New World Symphony for violin and piano' because it has the same American-Slavonic mix and great tunes. A good piece on which to learn about sonata playing.

    FRANK BRIDGE - Moto Perpetuo
This one gets the bow and fingers moving! Was in Trinity Guildhall at Grade 7 but really Grade 8 if it is to be played really well. It has fast spiccato, fast finger work and some double stopping. A student can really show off with this one!
